Dear Sisters and Brothers:
Well,
we are off and running with one month down.
Our District Deputy Grand Matrons are busy making their official visits
and many compliments have been received, along with reports of everyone working
hard but having lots of fun. I
understand that the Work and Ritual workshops are going very well. Thanks to
those who did the preparing and to those who attended. I am thrilled to hear that our OES Clown
Patrol is off and running also and that they have been seen all over the state.
I
am happy to announce that we had forty five members travel to Jackson to attend
the Mississippi Grand Chapter. Brother
Roy and I were extremely proud to have fourteen Grand Officers, four General
Grand Chapter Committee Members, eight Past Grand Matrons and Patrons, and four
Grand Representatives present. What a
beautiful group of members to represent our Grand Jurisdiction.
Our
OES Clown Mobile pins are off and running also. The proceeds from these pins (which is our Personal Achievement
Award Project) will be for the Shrine Kids “Transportation Fund”. Brother Roy and I will also have a contest
this year which will be: “One Dime At A
Time”. So please start saving up your
“dimes” so we can collect them as we travel the state with our many “Miles of
Smiles”. These proceeds will also go
directly to the “Transportation Fund”; such a very worthy cause.
For
a special “Community Service” project, we are scheduled to help with the
Special Olympics of Louisiana to be held in Hammond on May 19 from 8:00 a.m. to
5:00 p.m. at the Southeastern Louisiana University campus. Anyone willing and able and would like to
volunteer to help, please come and join us.
Looking forward to having some of our OES Clown Patrol unit there! We will meet at the “People Power Pool” in
the Gazebo outside the cafeteria. This
will be a casual event so you can wear your Pineapple shirt, if you have one,
or an OES T-shirt. Hope to see you
there!
Once each year on Sunday,
There comes such a special day.
A day to honor mothers,
In a somewhat special way.
We
send them gifts and flowers,
And a card that tries to say,
How we appreciate our mothers,
More than just in May.
Happy Mother’s Day to all
Moms!
Star Love & Miles of Smiles,
Diane Smith
