June, 2006 Newsletter

From the Desk of the Worthy Grand Matron:

Dear Sisters and Brothers:

At the publication of this letter, School is officially out for summer and for me a highly anticipated leave begins and allows me to serve this Order in a full time capacity.   The Schools of Instruction are underway and I hope you are enjoying them.

The Vision Conference was a great success and we thank Sister Janet Shook, PGM and General Grand Chapter Visioneer of Louisiana for coordinating this event.  I enjoyed working with, and commend our facilitators, Sisters Linda Lamkin, PGM, Diane Smith, AGM, Juanita Wilkinson, GC and Linn McNary, DDGM No. 16 for a job well done.

I would like to thank Sister Dorothy McClure, PGM and her committee for the beautiful ”Music of the Stars” evening we had in Sulphur with our Texas Friends.  The Denims to Diamonds Texas BBQ in Texas left us all licking our fingers and slapping our knees.

June will be a very busy month for traveling.  It’s not too late to sign up and travel with us. We plan to make stops in Georgia, Oklahoma and New York City.

Don’t forget that June is dedicated to our Rainbow for Girls.  Please let your silver drills be dedicated to these girls.  These funds should be forwarded to the Grand Secretary and will be evenly distributed among the assemblies at Grand Chapter.

We have two New Chapter Goals and Objectives this year.  The first is to complete a community service project each quarter.  These projects should be beyond helping our members and should demonstrate to our communities, our Good Works! We will have a Statewide Community Service Project.  We are asking each member to bring at least one can or non-perishable food item to each Official Visit.  The District Chairman for Project Charity – Community Service will collect these items and take them to the local Food Bank or Pantry.  The second new objective is to promote or publicize our Order at least once a quarter.  We need to let people know that we are alive and well and that they can be a part of the greatest fraternal organization in the world. Like grandma use to say, “Sometimes, you just got to toot your own whistle!”

                                                                                Fraternally,

                                                                                Jane McDaniel

 Worthy Grand Matron

APPRECIATION:

Again we wish to express our deepest gratitude to the sisters and brothers of the Order of the Eastern Star for their donation and generosity to the Masonic Learning Center of Louisiana and the Dyslexia Training Program.  You cannot imagine the gratification we experience when parents describe the positive changes in the children who participate in this program.  The beauty of it is that we are not only helping to remedy an individual human problem, but are likely making a very positive contribution to the whole of society by expanding the capability of those students to assume more demanding positions as they mature. Thank you so much,   Roy B. Tuck, Jr., PGM, Chairman Board of Trustees, Masonic Learning Center.
